Comparing Lexical Bundles in Medical Research Article Abstracts of Iranian and Foreign Journals

The art of persuasive speaking or writing in English academic settings depends on using multi-word expressions, also known as clusters, collocations, lexical bundles, to a large extent. They are discipline-specific prefabricated word combinations that statistically tend appear together. However, many novice foreign writers have difficulty appropriate discipline-bound which has made numerous applied linguists for Academic Purposes (EAP) study the genre research articles from this perspective. Thus, present sought compare similarities and differences four-word bundles 409210-word corpus Medical Research Article (MRA) abstracts Iranian journals. To accomplish this, frequency-based approach, were extracted utilizing AntConc3.5.7 concordance program, their structures functions analyzed by Biber et al.'s (1999) structural Hyland's (2008a) functional taxonomies. results showed distribution bundles’ main patterns. besides sub-structures sub-functions, it was revealed highly frequently shared types MRA journals less frequent vice versa. This helps medical researchers write unified crucial role getting accepted rejected. Furthermore, producing well-organized internal can significantly enhance rank worldwide.
